“It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.” But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”” John 11:2-4 ESV
Lord, you definitely got the glory from this situation when you raised Lazarus from the dead. You said that the illness wouldn’t lead to death and ultimately it didn’t, but the journey did take him through death. How often in our walk with you do we see situations similar to this. You tell us the victory is ours, but what we don’t know is what we will have to walk through and endure before the victory. When we hit those darkest of moments, when it looks like the promise is fully dying, when it looks like it is too late and impossible for you to change the situation, help us to still hang on and trust that it isn’t too late or too impossible for you. You did change the situation by doing the impossible and bringing Lazarus back to life. Wow. It wasn’t too late for your declaration to be true. Help us to always trust you through the whole journey. Just because it looks very different than we envisioned, doesn’t mean you have forgotten. You would have gotten glory just by healing Lazarus, but there is so much more we have learned about you and your ways because you waited. You received more glory by raising Lazarus from the dead. Help us to be willing to walk through anything you put before us with faith and trust so that our lives glorify you as much as possible.
In Jesus name, amen.
